I have trained in fine and digital art to connect my higher consciousnesses and divine creativity to my hand. I focus on maintaining the classic skills learned through countless hours of drawing from life with graphite, charcoals, and pastels and painting with oils, gauche, and watercolors to develop my understanding of landscapes and human figures. Looking at the world through my eyes from an early age and being aware of the yin and yang that make up our physical world has been what I see as a double-edged sword that has fueled a fire of agony and ecstasy within my art. One edge of this sword aims to express my awareness of this yin-centric world through painting or drawing with disciplined training in realism and expressionism. Focusing on intelligence-driven processes is shown in works titled “Pots and Bread” and “Magnolia”. While the other edge of the sword aims to express the yang-gilded world through bold saturated colors and big painterly strokes in all mediums, letting my intuition and intellectual-driven skills into my art. Depicted in works titled “Ignorance” and “Entropy”. In combination with these intellect-driven and intelligence-driven disciplines, I take symbolic references from ancient religions and spiritual practices to add personal connections a viewer may have to inspire higher thought and to solidify the messages depicted in my art.
To control and use this internal blaze, I developed a composition-generating process called “Inspirado”. I start with an idea or emotion in my head. I then cover a white sheet of paper with black and white gauche with no rhyme or reason. After the paint dries, I throw a 5 by 5-inch viewfinder onto the black and white spotted paper- It doesn’t matter where this viewfinder lands. I then investigate the viewfinder by squinting my eyes and turning the page in different orientations. As I investigate these primitive black-and-white shapes and forms, I can start to use my creativity to fill in the gaps and manipulate the forms to my initial idea. Finally, once a clear idea is channeled, I sketch out what stands out most to me, which then is used as a concept sketch for my paintings. Shown in the “Inspirado Process” slides for a work titled “Circus Plenus”.
